My mom had to go out of town for a business meeting. Unfortunately for her, my dad is an in-charge type of person, and he didn't want me staying home alone. So, when my mom left, he did his best to keep me entertained.
He was a great game-player.
It was that time of the year when all the cool-kid recesses were opening, and he figured I could use some help from the cool-kid recesses.
He found out that I liked science, so he decided to prepare me for some exciting science.
"Mom had to go away for a business trip," my dad said. "But, being a self-proclaimed naturalist, I took it upon myself to prepare you for one of life's greatest discoveries. I've arranged for an event, and I'm hoping that you'll go and participate."
"I don't think I can just leave the house and go to something like this," I said.
"Why not? If you see something interesting, you can always stop, and I'll take it from there."
I began to debate the matter with my dad, and he reminded me that, as the fun-loving and quick-witted science enthusiast that I am, I could always come back and tell him everything that I saw.
So, as soon as my mom's car pulled away, I said to my dad, "I'm going to go outside and help you get this prepared."
"Good luck," he said. "You may have to help yourself to what you see."
I went outside and noticed a pile of leaves nearby. I walked over to it and picked up a red leaf. I began to look at the other leaves in the pile.
